Summarise incoming emails and post them to the team
A shared inbox, such as for support or sales, gets read late or twice. A short summary in a team channel tells everyone what came in and who should pick it up.
Software used
What happens
When
An email arrives in a shared Gmail inbox.
Then
- n8n sends the email text to an OpenAI model for a two-line summary.
- The summary and a link to the email are posted to Slack.
How the tools connect
With a built-in integration. n8n lists OpenAI as an integration on its website.
Set it up
In n8n, start a workflow with a Gmail trigger for the shared inbox.
Add an OpenAI step that summarises the email in two lines.
Add a Slack step that posts the summary and the sender.
Test with a few real emails before switching it on.
Menus change, so these steps say what to do rather than where to click. Each company's help pages have the current screens.
Watch out for
- Emails may contain personal data. Check your rules before sending them to an AI provider.
- OpenAI usage is billed separately from n8n.

Turn chat requests into tracked tasks
Requests made in chat get lost once the conversation scrolls away. Creating a task from the message keeps a link to it, with an owner and a due date.

Research a question across Slack and the web at once
Answers to "what did we decide about X?" are often buried in old chat threads. Searching Slack and the web together, with sources, saves digging and gives a summary you can share.

Tell the team the moment your site goes down
Finding out about downtime from customers is the worst way. An alert in the channel the team already watches gets someone looking within minutes.
