How scores work
Every score, explained.
The trust score runs from 0 to 100. It is built only from what customers do: how they rate a product and whether they renew. You can check any score yourself from the numbers on the product's page.
Method version 1, October 2026.
What counts
- The star ratings customers give in their reviews.
- How many reviews there are. A handful of glowing reviews counts for less than many.
- The share of customers who renew when their term ends, once it has been measured.
What never counts
- Payment to App Scavenger of any kind. There is nothing a vendor can buy that changes a score.
- The commission App Scavenger earns on a product.
- How big the company is, how much funding it has, or how well known it is.
- Which program the product is in, or how large its discount is.
- Advertising. App Scavenger does not sell sponsored positions.
The method
1. Adjust the rating for the number of reviews
Two five-star reviews tell you less than two hundred. So each product starts with 5 neutral reviews at 3.5 stars, and its real reviews are averaged in with them. With few reviews the result stays close to 3.5. With many, the neutral ones barely matter.
2. Put it on a 0 to 100 scale
One star becomes 0 and five stars become 100.
3. Combine with the renewal rate
When a product's renewal rate has been measured, ratings make up 60% of the score and renewals 40%. Renewing is a customer voting with their money, so it carries real weight.
4. Without renewal data, the score is capped
A product with no measured renewals is scored on reviews alone and cannot go above 80. New products can earn a good score, but the top of the scale is kept for those whose customers have come back.
How products are ranked
Lists are ordered by trust score, highest first. Filters and search change which products are shown, never their order. A product with no reviews and no renewal data has no score and appears last.
What "Verified" means
A verified review is one written by someone who bought the product through App Scavenger, so there is a purchase record behind it.
Purchases are not live yet, so nothing on the site is marked as verified today, and no product has a trust score until real reviews arrive.
